October 2012 to Easter 2013

We left Scallywag in the water with the intention of trying to get some sailing in during the winter season, especially as we were staying home at Christmas. No luck, we had some time aboard but no sailing. Either we were away or storms were visiting. So, at Easter she came out to have her bottom cleaned and even then it was freezing.

Cleaned the propeller and greased it and replaced the anode. Also drained the engine and drive oil.

First coat of anti-fouling (red) folloed by second coat (blue).

Was nice to have help of my neighbour John.

And so she looked smart.

First Time Around the Island

Sailing by St. Catherine’s Point, you can just see the lighthouse flashing at the end of this video.

All is still in Yarmouth

At Yarmouth on the 10th April we had a nice evening and good rest before Pauline’s first trip around the Channel side of the Isle of Wight.

Bank Holiday Blues

So, started our First Season. After East Cowes Marina we headed for Southampton (Town Quay) to meet up with Hill Head Club mate Paul Benstead who also had a Legend 36 and had been a great help. After a few days in the Marina, avoiding a gale, and buying some galley and comfort things for the boat, we finally left for Yarmouth. A quick lesson that Legends do not like full sail at over 15 knots and settled down to a heavy ride.

Our First Voyage

Our inaugural voyage on Scallywag on 6th April 2012 heading for a berth at East Cowes

Saturday 31 March 2012

First Quarter

Most of this time was spent sorting the berth with ropes and fenders and getting to grips with all the equipment. Twenty years using a wooden tiller and now a steel wheel and autopilot. Hand held GPS and a pencil give way to electronic plotter. Once woolly jumpers now diesel central heating. An even have ice cubes with my gin and tonic! We were looking forward to our inaugural trip at Easter. Ever optimistic we replaced the full enclosure with the Bimini just before the great day.

And with some investment in bespoke ropes and pontoon fenders she stands well on the low tide,

and floats nicely on a high tide

Scallywag's Berth

In the beginning

We completed the purchase of Scallywag on Christmas Day 2011 whilst on holiday in Gran Caneria thanks to online banking.
Our first task was to check her out at Haslar Marina and bring her up to the berth at Fareham Creek. Some problems at Fareham Marina (sinking to far in the mud) resulted in a great berth being found at Portsmouth Marine Engineering a little further down where she rest high and dry for a few hours each tide. Scallywag floats around ~3+3 and is accessible from the pontoon at all times. Electric and water makes it a great berth. Also , when its nears I can get to propeller etc.
